Cumin (Cuminum cyminum)
Cumin is a plant of the umbelliferae family whose dried fruits are used as a spice. The name "cumin" is derived from the cross-shaped leaf position of the plant and the cumin-like appearance of the dried fruits. Since the Middle Ages, caraway has been attributed with magical powers. It is said to protect against hexes and curses. Carrying a few cumin seeds in a bag is said to keep evil spirits and demons away.
Generally, cumin is used for protection, fidelity, exorcism and against theft, or smoke some together with olibanum to ward off evil.
