Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) is plant species from the Lamiaceae family. It originates from the Mediterranean region, where it grows wild on rocky, dry slopes. In the 11th century, lavender was spread, by monks across the Alps, to the monastery gardens of northern Europe. As a fragrant and medicinal herb, lavender is used against stress, inner turmoil and to increase concentration.
The name lavender comes from the Latin lavare and means as much as wash, clean. It is therefore also often added to cleansing incense. Lavender is also good for love, as it helps to seduce men.
