Acorus calamus (Calami rhizoma)
Calamus (Acorus calamus) is a species of plant in the calamus family (Acoraceae). The marsh plant originates from Asia, was naturalised in Central Europe in the 16th century and is widespread throughout the northern hemisphere. Calamus is a perennial, herbaceous plant that grows to a height of 60 to 100 metres. The rootstock (calami rhizoma) of calamus is used and harvested in September and October.
When smoked, calamus enhances mental perception and sensitises our consciousness, which is very helpful for meditation. In China, calamus is one of the auspicious plants that also attract success. Since the smoke also has a health-promoting effect, it can also be processed into healing incense.
