Juniper berries (Juniperus communis)
The common juniper (Juniperus communis), also known as heath juniper, is a species of plant from the cypress family (Cupressaceae) and grows as an upright to creeping shrub or small tree that can reach heights of up to 12 metres. In ancient times, juniper twigs were hung over stable doors at Christmas to keep away druids and witches.
Juniper berries are one of the oldest magical incenses and were used by all shamans of the northern hemisphere. It is smoked to protect against negative entities and to disinfect sick rooms.
