Hyssop herb (Hyssopus officinalis)
Hyssop (Hyssopus officinalis) is a semi-shrub from the Lamiaceae family and reaches a height of 60 cm. The plant has been cultivated as a spice and medicinal plant since the 16th century and is found in Europe, West Asia and North Africa. The young, fresh leaves are used in the kitchen as a spice, chopped into small pieces and added to salads and vegetables. In the Middle Ages, hyssop was used, among other things, as a remedy for stomach complaints and to expel stillbirths.
Hyssop is dedicated to Jupiter and is smoked for protection and purification.
