Elecampane root (Jnula helenium)
Elecampane (Inula helenium) is a species of plant from the genus Alante (Inula) in the daisy family (Asteraceae). It grows as a perennial herbaceous plant and reaches heights of up to 2 metres. It has been used as a medicinal and spice plant since ancient times, originally from Asia Minor and Central Asia, but is also native to Spain.
In ancient times, elecampane was dedicated to Odin and was known as a plant that worked against evil spirits. It was also associated with the sun and could not be missing from any solstice incense.
